Roger Somville was born in Brussels in 1923 and died in 2014 in Tervuren. Studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and with the painter Charles COUNHAYE. Graduated from the National School of Visual Arts in La Cambre. Met Simone TITS (ceramicist) in 1943 whom he married in 1948. Director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Watermael-Boitsfort (Brussels) from 1958 to 1984. Founding member of the "TAPISSERIE DE TOURNAI" (1946), of "FORCES MURALES" (1947), of the "CERAMIQUE DE DOUR" (1951), of the "MOUVEMENT REALISTE" (1969) and of the "COLLECTIF D'ART PUBLIC" (1979), he is one of the main representatives of the realist attitude on the national and international level. Roger Somville is also the author of numerous mural works, including "OUR TIME" at the Hankar metro station (600 m2, 1974/76) in Brussels and "WHAT IS AN INTELLECTUAL" at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (400 m2, 1987).
