Presence of the signum (small drawing) at the bottom of the document. The signum or manual seal, was a mark, often a symbol or monogram, that the signatory added to authenticate the document. In some cases, this could be a stylized drawing or a graphic representation specific to the person who affixed it. This sign had a function similar to that of the modern signature, but it was sometimes used in addition to a wax seal. Notaries, lords, had distinctive signs to certify their commitment or approval.
