Portrait of Baron Arthur de Vasserot de Vinci (1802-1838), a Swiss officer from the noble Vasserot de Vincy family, established in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. He was one of the three sons of François-Auguste-Maurice de Vasserot de Vincy (1754-1841), Baron de Batie and Lord of Vincy and Elisabeth-Anne Boissier-Pictet. Arthur served as an officer in the army of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Naples), joining his brothers in international military careers. Oil on canvas in good condition (slight warping), dimensions without frame H27.5 cm x W21.5 cm, dimensions with period gilt-leaf frame H40 cm x W34 cm (minor restorations). Inscription on the back of the frame "uniform 4th Swiss regiment", Naples....died in Capua in 1838. The château also served as a refuge for French royalists during the revolution.The Vasserot de Vincy family maintained ties with influential figures, including the Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria, with whom François-Auguste-Maurice corresponded to promote his wines on the British market.
