Object description :

"An Empire Mahogany Chest Of Drawers, Early 19th Century"
Mahogany and mahogany veneer chest of drawers opening with three drawers from the Empire period. It is topped with a black marble "Belgian granite" and rests on front claw feet and rear feet with three decreasing balls, called a rosary. The chest of drawers handles are in the shape of a lion's head and the keyholes are decorated with a wreath of flowers. This chest of drawers has a fire mark of the Château d'Eu and inventory number 1676 twice.
"Château d'Eu - a summer residence with a royal destiny. Upon the death of his mother, the Eu estate passed to the Duke of Orléans, the future King Louis-Philippe. The new owner of the place was passionate about architecture and history and it was with him that the estate would experience its greatest developments. In 1827, the architect Pierre-Léonard Fontaine began the renovations to make the château more comfortable. The paintings inherited from the Grande Mademoiselle were restored and large orders were placed with the best houses of the time to furnish the castle. After the abdication of Louis-Philippe in 1848, the estate was once again sequestered." source: https://www.chateau-eu.fr/decouvrir/domaine/chateau/
