"Large Embroidered Silk. Oriental Work From The 19th Century. "
Very large tablecloth of 185cm in diameter in yellow silk embroidered with bouquets of stylized flowers, compartmentalized by an elegant trellis of starry scrolls. The work is old, probably before 1900. It is made of several pieces of fabric. An interesting feature is the difference in shades of certain colors, this is not due to accidental discoloration but to the use of threads of different colors which allows us to think of a very old silk. This phenomenon is found on carpets with changing shades of color because woven by nomadic peoples who, using sometimes different pigments throughout their route, could not always obtain exactly the same shade of color. The main use of yellow, the beautiful quality of embroidery, the small points make us think of a Chinese work, although the patterns are atypical. It is perhaps a creation made in China for export to the Ottoman or Safavid Middle East? 19th century or earlier. Diameter 185 cm. Good condition.
