This is a broken fan, the 28 strands being independent of each other and connected by a beige silk ribbon.
The work is typical of the city of Canton, China, during the first half of the 19th century.
The finely detailed decoration is a true lacework, from which stand out circular cartouches, rosettes, and, in the center, a magnificent Swiss shield with the number J of its patron.
The main strads are deeply and very finely carved with a decoration of houses and temples in a lush environment.
Two small rhinestones adorn the shaft of the fan.
Superb engraving on a fan, typical of Canton, intended for export to the European market. The finesse of the openwork is remarkable.
