"Jean Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822) After Medal Representing The Arrival Of The King In Paris "
According to Jean Bertrand Andrieu (1761 - 1822), this medal represents the arrival of King Louis XVI in Paris on October 6, 1789 and is captioned "THE NATION HAS CONQUERED ITS KING". This cast bears, on the reverse, the inscription "made by Rousseau in Paris" on a brass plaque. The frame is in bronze, fitted with a ring. Andrieu is considered one of the greatest French medalists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. October 6th is one of the "great days" of the French Revolution, and resulted in the definitive and forced return of King Louis XVI to Paris.
