Pique Or Cotillon Skirt In Indian Fabric With Thousand-flower Stripes - Provence Circa 1860
Circa 1860 Provence France Provençal quilted skirt commonly called Cotillon, in floral Indian fabric dating from the Second French Empire. Padded quilting with small diamonds and a wide band of beads at the bottom giving all the volume to the skirt. Indian fabric, cotton printed with a roller of floral stripes with a strong chromatic density, and inspired by the Indian Mille Fleur decorations of the 18th century. A clean bias at the bottom of the skirt in beige cotton twill matching the cotton braid of the waist assembly which is in canon pleat or organ pleats. Lining in aubergine printed cotton with undulating feathers. Tightening of the skirt in front and under the apron. This skirt is very light with original period assembly. No defects to note. Very good condition of color and preservation. Beautiful object of Provençal folk art. Dimensions: Height 90 cm Waist 76 cm Circumference of the skirt 280 cm
