"Colonial Missionary Box In Sewn Wood"
Mr. Tale is no more, he will have lived through many adventures in the colonies… The photos testify that he was accompanied in his “civilizing” missions by disciples of Ignatius of Loyola, Jesuit fathers who converted at will. The missionary in the photo had in his luggage a box originally containing all the priestly objects he needed for his rituals. A few hosts no doubt, a patera, a very small chalice, a corner of lace and small anointing bottles, containing holy oils…. But all this has disappeared, we still have the sewn wooden box of Scandinavian origin, engraved with a cross and the initials of the priest. It smells good of authenticity and the experience of the colonials of the 19th century.
