This is likely a project by Léopold Survage in connection with the performance of The Tales of Hoffmann for The Met Opera (The Metropolitan Opera, New York) which performed this Offenbach opera in 1937.

Presence of an annotation at the bottom left “8m” probably in reference to the length of the theater/opera stage, and very likely presence of the artist’s studio stamp which can be discerned via the circle of a stamp at the bottom right, near the signature.
