"18th Century French Sponge Ball, Toiletry Item, Pierced Brass"
Here is an interesting 18th century sponge ball, from brass, forming a spherical box, round stepped foot, plain body, hinged lid and thumb rest;  entirely pierced of floral motifs, including two hearts.
These balls contained at Louis XV period round sponges, soaked in soap or perfumed vinegars . Generally plated of silver, they sat on dressing table, accompanied by soap ball, same spherical shape, but pierced on top of a single operculum.
Dimensions: it is a fairly large ball: 9cm and 9cm.
Condition: This piece has been used, with just a little wear, no flaws, no traces of silvering, it opens and closes well, beautiful patina. - eclectic - antique dealers since 1970, Siret: FR 24.430113233.
