This 19th-century oval reliquary houses 1st Class Relics (Ex Ossibus) of two highly venerated saints:
Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Jane Frances de Chantal
The relics are mounted on a vibrant yellow silk background within an oval silvered brass theca, enclosed under convex glass. They are displayed in a diagonal crossed arrangement, each labeled with Latin identifiers: S. F. de Sales and Ste de Chantal, framed by curled gilt thread ornamentation.
The reverse of the reliquary displays a large intact red episcopal wax seal and four original red threads holding the closure in place — verifying its authenticity according to ecclesiastical tradition. A clear “P.S.” hallmark is engraved on the metal casing.
Saint Francis de Sales (1567–1622), Bishop of Geneva, was a leading spiritual writer and founder of the Visitation Order along with Saint Jane de Chantal (1572–1641), his close collaborator and a prominent French mystic. Both were canonized and continue to inspire the faithful through their teachings and religious foundation.
