Ercole (Hercule) Trachel was a painter born in Nice in 1820 and died in 1872. He trained artistically at the Reale Accademia Albertina in Turin, where he studied from 1837 to 1839 and also won a first prize for a nude. After his studies, he also worked in Great Britain from 1853.
His training and style reflect the academic influence of Turin, but also a certain openness to different themes and techniques, such as watercolor.
