Painting representing a young naked woman signed Georges d'Espagnat born August 14, 1870 in Melun and died April 17, 1950 in Paris is a French painter, illustrator and engraver. In 1888, Georges d'Espagnat entered the School of Decorative Arts and the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Endowed with a strong and very independent character, he preferred to train alone by making copies of paintings, notably from the Louvre Museum. A talented draftsman and engraver, he contributed to numerous illustrated periodicals such as Le Courrier français (1895-1896), La Critique and Le Rire (1899-1912). He is the author of original lithographs. Practicing wood engraving, he used the penknife and obtained an expressionist rendering. He thus gave several woodcuts to L'Ymagier directed by Remy de Gourmont whose novel Sixtine (1922) he illustrated. He is the father of the physicist Bernard d'Espagnat (1921-2015) and the cousin of the painter and engraver Christian d'Espic (1901-1978). Georges d'Espagnat died on April 17, 1950 in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. • Brussels, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. • Douai, Chartreuse Museum. • Geneva, Petit Palais: Le Printemps. • Madrid, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. • Moscow, Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. • New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art. • Paris: • Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris; • Musée d'Orsay; • Opera Library-Museum: Meeting of musicians at Mr. Godebski's (1910), donation from 1931, painting representing members of the Apache circle, Michel-Dimitri Calvocoressi, Maurice Ravel, Albert Roussel, Florent Schmitt, Déodat de Séverac, Ricardo Viñes at the piano, at Cipa Godebski and his son Jean, 22, rue d'Athènes in Paris [6]. • Rouen, Museum of Fine Arts. • Saint-Tropez, Museum of the Annonciade. • Strasbourg, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. • Tokyo, Masuoka Museum of Art.
