"Recreation Galante, Follower Of Watteau"
A beautiful scene after Watteau, probably painted in the second half of the 18th century. It depicts a gallant party depicting the main characters of the commedia dell'arte: in the foreground, Harlequin, Columbine, and Scaramouche playing the guitar; in the background, the Doctor, with his back to us, accompanied by Pantalone and the Capitan, trying to seduce a young lady. Unlike many paintings inspired by the great master, the characters in our composition are delicately depicted, a sign of a talented artist. The work has been relined. Interesting Baroque frame.
