"Cantonese Porcelain Cup And Saucer, 19th Century"
Canton porcelain cup and saucer with blue decoration enhanced with gold consisting of flowers, foliage, butterflies and birds. An inscription in Persian calligraphy, partially erased, adorns a cartouche present on both elements of the set. It could be “Babour”, nickname meaning “tiger” given to Zahir ud-din Muhammad (1483-1530), a historical figure of great importance since he was the founder of the Mughal Empire which lasted in India until the middle of the 19th century.
Decoration slightly faded in places.
Central inscription partially erased.
Good condition.
