Object description :

"Japanese Bronzes Signed Kome Jiichi - Two Peacocks "
Bronze okimonos signed Kome JIICHI 米治一, (1896-1985), Taisho-Showa period - circa 1930, depicting two peacocks (slightly different patina and finish).

Born in Yokota-cho, Takaoka City, he was a sculptor. His teacher was Takamura KOUN (Kaei, 5th year (1852) ~ Showa, 9th year (1934)). After graduating from the Toyama Prefectural School of Crafts, he graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1919. In the same year, he entered graduate school and graduated in 1921.

Back in Takaoka, he regularly participated in the production of Takaoka bronzes and statues until 1984 (Showa, 59). The number of works produced is significant, and about 200 bronze statues were erected throughout the country, as well as works related to the imperial family, such as works purchased by Emperor Showa for the Chichibu Palace, and the roof decoration of the new "Mizutori" palace.

He also excelled in ceramics and painting.
