"Marine Signed Godchaux "
This poetic seaside view is signed Godchaux. In a slightly misty atmosphere, the pinkish tone of the high cliffs that line the shore, evoke the early morning, the landscape bathed in a soft light makes us think of those early summer mornings, where the freshness of the night, competes with the rising sun, the warmth of its first rays. In the foreground a fisherman near a boat placed on the shore is probably preparing to go to sea. Émile Godchaux, French painter, was born in Bordeaux around 1860, he died in this same city in 1938. The Benezit gives little information about him, probably from the same family as Alfred Godchaux, they painted the same themes in an identical way and it is very difficult to differentiate them. The signature is difficult to decipher, it was worn by previous cleanings and the last one we did very slightly erased the g of Godchaux which unfortunately is no longer decipherable. Frame size 40 cm x 51 cm Oil on canvas 22 cm x 32 cm Period late 19th century, early 20th century.
