Through them, he was influenced by the Barbizon School, academic art and naturalism, and then discovered the Pont-Aven region. He traveled to Africa and the Indian Ocean, painting works that placed him in the Orientalist movement. He was a member of the Société des artistes français from 1888, where he received an honorable mention in 1895, a third-class medal in 1896 and a gold medal in 1927. Maurice Lévis painted scenes of country life, seaside scenes and travels5 during his travels in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
