The Sarough carpet, or Sarouk, the Ecbatana of Antiquity, is knotted in a few villages near Sarouk in the agricultural region of Arak. European buying houses have had agencies there since the mid-19th century.
Most of these carpets are nicknamed hamadan by traders, particularly the runner rugs knotted in this region.
These carpets have distinct identities, our model is of the Sarouk type knotted in the small town of this name but marketed in Hamadan.
These carpets remain very popular in the United States, whose decorators appreciate the heavy and important luxurious pieces of wool imported from Persia, Iran and India.
Indian Sarough are of immense quality, knotted very tightly with imported New Zealand wool.
