"Old Woman In Ceramic Pottery From Bredeus "
old woman, probably a Breton going to or returning from mass (she has a missal in her hand) and leaning on a cane. Under the sculpture, a handwritten inscription "Carnac", the mention "pattern registered" and a mark "CM" very close to a model executed by Guillaume Bourgoignie for the Poterie de Bredus in Belgium (Ostend). It is possible that this factory supplied ceramics to seaside towns during the development of tourism on the occasion of the creation of the South Brittany railway line at the end of the 19th century. Tourism in Carnac also developed thanks to the Romantic movement. (Hugo-Mérimé-Flaubert...) a small restoration on the cane, two small very old chips remain, 1 on the missal, 1 on the terrace.
