Madame Annaly (Annaly Marie Ursine Lourse dite) (1841-1910): “Edge of pine trees at Saint-Palais, near Royan”, oil on canvas 73 X 112 cm, protected by a wooden nail cover 75 X 114 cm.
Signed and dated 1875, tiny piece on the back.
Exhibited under this title at the Salon des Amis des Arts in Bordeaux in 1875, this bucolic painting, with its three horses grazing near the shore, reveals the characteristic silhouette of the Cordouan lighthouse on the horizon.
She was a student of Louis-Augustin Auguin and Amédée Baudit who introduced her to the rendering of the atmosphere and of Léon-Germain Pelouze from whom she drew her wonder at Nature.
