Large Engraved Silver Cross Pendant – 19th Century
Elegant, finely engraved solid silver cross pendant, probably dating from the second half of the 19th century. This popular religious jewelry piece is distinguished by its rich decoration and the quality of its craftsmanship.
Description:
The cross features a central engraving of the Christ monogram IHS (Latin abbreviation for "Iesus Hominum Salvator" – Jesus Savior of Mankind), surmounted by a radiant cross.
The vertical branch is adorned with religious symbols: a pierced flaming heart, evoking the Sacred Heart, and a stylized architectural motif evoking an altar or a heavenly gate. The ends of the branches are decorated with radiant fan-shaped motifs, inspired by the Baroque style.
Two small silver religious medallions, depicting saints or Marian figures, are attached to each side of the horizontal branch, adding a special charm to this piece.
This cross is engraved with several names and dates on the edge.
