Oil on canvas, late 19th, early 20th century. Unsigned. Similar to the work of Samuel Frère (1845-1931). Landscape of moors, coppices and maritime pines. A figure seems to be observing us, herself in the shadow of a large pine tree. Bright colors, thick vegetation suggesting strawberry trees, gorse and heather, in the near backlight of a very bright late afternoon sky. All treated in small touches. Note, some losses to the pictorial layer, notably at the bottom right. Some plaster jumps on the frame (19th century frame molding).
