2 Mycological Models Of The 19th Century
Two educational botanical models of mushrooms, hand-made in polychrome papier-mâché and mounted on black wooden bases. These models come from an old Austrian school, as indicated by the original labels with the wording:
"Eicenthum der Schule zu Mönchsdorf"
This inscription is an important clue for dating: the word "Eicenthum" is an archaic form of "Eigentum" (which means "property" in German). The presence of the obsolete letter "h" suggests a dating between 1800 and the early 1900s, a period in which German spelling underwent important reforms.
The models have 2 different numbers:
n2 (red one), dimensions: H. 12 D. 9 L. 9 W. 72 gr.
n10 (yellow one), dimensions: H. 12 P. 9 L. 9 W. 73 gr.
Their realistic detail and craftsmanship make them rare and of great historical value, perfect for collectors, museums and botanists.
They can be purchased individually for €150 each or the entire collection for €250
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, papier-mâché botanical models were essential tools for teaching science in European schools and universities.
Each piece was modeled and painted by hand to faithfully reproduce the characteristics of the species represented.
Since microscopy was not yet widespread, these models allowed students to study the morphology of fungi on a larger scale.
International shipping available, the models will be carefully packaged to protect them during transport.
