"Japanese Wooden Okimono Depicting General Goshisho, Meiji Era (1868-1912)"
Small wooden okimono depicting General Goshisho (Wu Zixu in Chinese), hero of a Chinese legend from the 6th century BC, who, to demonstrate his strength and erudition, holds an incense burner above his head in one hand while, with the other, he dips a brush in an inkwell placed on a low table in front of him.
The details are worked with great finesse. The face, of great expressiveness, conveys all the determination of the character.
Signature “Nobukazu” under the foot of the low table.
Good condition.
Crack in the wood visible at the level of the low table.
