The head of the axe is richly decorated: On one side a lion standing on its hind legs holding a crucifix in its right paw (possible evocation of Saint Jerome, or symbol of the strength of Christianity)
On the other side, a noble horseman, which is perhaps a representation of the emperor Charles V. On the same side, in the center between the axe and the curved pick, portrait of a crowned monarch. Length of the edge 17 cm
Opposite the edge, there is a curved pick called "bec de corbin" measuring 8 cm
A quadrangular pyramidal point extends the handle beyond the axe by 7.6 cm
The stock is decorated first with plant motifs, then a coat of arms, and finally 3 fleurs-de-lis.
Finally the twisted grip completes the object.
The whole weapon is made of cast iron, relatively heavy = 1.7 kg.
The condition is very good, and even if this axe does not have the four centuries of the original model, it remains pleasant and decorative at a reasonable price.
