Chryselephantine bronze sculpture with gold and ivory patina depicting a flamenco dancer resting on a molded onyx base. Signed on the terrace "P.Philippe", and numbered "20" twice on the sculpture. Old edition cast, Period around 1920. H: 31 cm (without base) H: 35cm (with base) PAUL PHILIPPE (1870-1930) Paul Philippe is a famous French sculptor, born in Berlin in 1870. He began his apprenticeship at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1900, he moved to Paris. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied sculpture with Antonin Larroux (1859-1913). He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists from 1902 to 1909. In 1907, he presented his famous sculpture "Le Réveil" at the Salon, which is distinguished by the elegance and delicacy of its forms. A sculptor appreciated for the quality of his work, he presents his sculptures in different combinations of materials: bronze, marble, ivory. Paul Philippe creates numerous representations of characters, remarkable for the finesse of the modeling and the quality of the finish. He takes great care in working the patinas, sumptuous and sought after. His sculptures come alive with shimmering shades of brown and the luminous reflections of gold and silver patinas. His work consists mainly of sculptures made in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles.
