Circa 1830-1850France ProvenceLarge double-pointed ceremonial shawl or fichu, collected in Provence and dating from the Romantic period. Very fine cream cotton tulle embroidered and openwork in Marseille Sarci stitch. The edge is highlighted with a series of large inclined floral bouquets reminiscent of boteh or cashmere palms from India. The borders are crenellated with daisies whose pistils are finely openwork. Note that only two corners are rounded allowing for superposition on the back, once the shawl is folded in two. Some barely visible traces in the direction of the fold, and microspiques and rare rust stains, difficult to observe. The tulle and embroidery remain in very good condition.
