La Fille de Madame Angot is a three-act comic operetta composed by Charles Lecocq in 1872. The story takes place during the French Revolution and follows Clairette, the daughter of a famous fishmonger, promised to a man she does not love. Rebellious and witty, she opposes her arranged marriage and engages in political intrigues. She is in love with Ange Pitou, an engaged singer, which complicates things even more. The work is famous for its lively music, humorous dialogues and satirical portrayal of society.
The manufacture J. Vieillard, founded in Bordeaux in the 19th century, was specialized in fine earthenware. It was taken over by Jules Vieillard in 1845, which gave it a considerable boost. The manufacture has distinguished itself by the quality of its decorations inspired by the Orient, the Renaissance and naturalistic styles. It employed up to 300 workers and was very successful at world exhibitions. Closed in 1895, it remains a symbol of the ceramic know-how of Bordeaux.
