Stained Glass Window - Stained Glass Windows - Arrival Of Saintes Marie De La Mer
Artist: Jacques Gruber
The Saintes Maries, along with other disciples of Jesus, flee persecution and land on the beaches of the Camargue.
Guided by a dove, the search for peace, or the Holy Spirit, the group arrives on a land full of hope. Behind the Saintes, a cornucopia pours its fruit. Among the acorns and oak leaves on the bank, several animals are there as if to welcome them.
Although the oak is not a widespread plant in the Camargue, it can represent the resistance of the Christian faith in the face of adversity. The acorns, for their part, can be seen as the prosperity of this new religion then arriving in France.
Grisaille painting on colored glass assembled with lead. Several cracks collected. New brass frame.
