Magnificent 900 thousandths vermeil chalice, dating from the end of the 19th century, in a strong neo-Gothic style. The whole has well-preserved gilding, both inside and out, and is accompanied by its matching paten. The hexagonal foot of the chalice is richly decorated with religious engravings and reliefs. We can distinguish traditional Christian iconography: • Christ on the cross, accompanied by the sun and the moon, symbolizing divine light and temporality. • The four evangelists, each represented by their symbol: the lion of Saint Mark, the bull of Saint Luke, the eagle of Saint John and the angel of Saint Matthew. • The mystical pelican, symbol of the sacrifice of Christ and the Eucharist, feeding its young with its own blood. • An angel carrying a banner, evocation of the heavenly messengers announcing the good news. The richly openworked knot of the chalice is adorned with finely chiseled circular medallions, each bearing Gothic or religious motifs. The inscription engraved on the base attests to a dedication made on the occasion of a donation to the Church, dated March 30, 1880 (the last number being partially erased). This chalice demonstrates refined goldsmithing expertise and strong symbolism, making it ideal for a liturgical collection or ceremonial use. Characteristics: • Period: Late 19th century (circa 1880) • Material: 900 thousandths silver, vermeil • Height: 21 cm • Weight: 606 g • Condition: Good general condition, well-preserved gilding, no apparent restoration • Iconography: Christ on the cross, symbols of the evangelists, mystical pelican, angel with banner High-quality piece, full of history and rich Christian symbolism.
