Louis XVI Chiffonniere Table Stamped J.f. Lapie
Charming oval chiffonniere table in mahogany and mahogany veneer, L.XVI period, stamped J.F. Lapie for Jean François Lapie (1720-1797), who received his Master's degree on December 15, 1763.
It opens with a door simulating a front with three drawers highlighted by a bronze framing strip. The sides and back of the bedside table are also adorned with bronze strips.
The four tapered uprights are joined by a kidney-shaped crotch shelf.
The tapered legs are topped with small gilt bronze spinning tops.
The top features white marble with an openwork brass gallery.
Jean-François Lapie (1720-1797)
First cousin of Nicolas Alexandre and Jean Lapie, Jean-François Lapie obtained his master's degree late in life and settled on Rue de Charenton before moving to Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he lived until his death in 1797. His stamp is found on few pieces of furniture with classical lines.
An example of his work is a rather unusual chest of drawers, which was part of Viscount Beuret's furniture at the Château de Dampierre.
