A Rare Cafe Au Lait Tea Bowl And Saucer Decorated With Silver Kangxi E18thc
Rare Cafe au Lait tea bowl and saucer. Moulded and decorated using silver over the rich brown glaze with a "Long Elisa" standing on a terrace. The rim is decorated with floral sprays arranged in lotus flower-shaped panels. Kangxi-Yongzheng, 1720-1730.
Saucer diameter: 13.5 cm.
Condition: perfect; wear to the silver decoration.
It is very rare to find porcelain decorated with silver in this way, as silver is very susceptible to oxidation and wear.
Pere d'Entrecolles, a Jesuit priest in China in 1722, described in a letter to his family the process of applying gold and silver decoration to porcelain.
