Biography: Paul Wunderlich (1927-2010) was a German artist and sculptor known for his bold and provocative works, often centered on the exploration of the human figure, women and their erotic aspects. Born in Eberswalde, Germany, Wunderlich studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, where he was strongly influenced by the Surrealist and Expressionist movements. Throughout his career, he worked in a variety of mediums, but it is his sculpture that has earned him international recognition. His sculptural output is distinguished by an intense exploration of human anatomy and eroticism, featuring organic and often distorted forms. Wunderlich's works embody a complex, sometimes disturbing sensuality, in which the beauty of the human body is linked to themes of sexuality, desire, and intimacy. His bronze, marble, and resin sculptures, often depicting sensual female figures, are marked by suggestive postures and gestures, but also by a treatment of form that transcends the simple representation of the nude. Wunderlich's eroticism is not only aesthetic, but also symbolic, focusing on the boundaries between the sacred and the profane, the sublime and the trivial. His works question the relationship between body and soul, and invite reflection on the duality of human nature.
