Japanese bamboo basket (Hanakago) for Ikebana. Signed by Maeda Chikubôsai who was one of the most important artists working in the first part of the 20th century (1872-1950). Hanakago is a Japanese term meaning flower baskets. These are made using the Japanese bamboo weaving technique, which is a traditional art in itself. They are used in Ikebana and sometimes also in the tea ceremony. Ikebana meaning way of flowers or the art of making flowers live, is a traditional Japanese art based on floral arrangement.
