"Pair Of Marines, Early 19th Century"
Pair of oils on canvas from the beginning of the 19th century, around 1830-40, night seascapes. Both scenes take place in the moonlight; one in calm sea conditions, and the second much more stormy. The painter played on the elements, the light emanating from the moon, as well as the human activity in the foreground to render very lively luminous atmospheres. The two paintings on their original canvases are in very good condition, and presented in their also period frames. Total dimensions: 46 X 38.5 cm, and 35 X 28 cm for the canvases.
