Object description :

"Philibert Léon Couturier (1823 -1901) "le Poulaillier""
Philibert Léon COUTURIER was born in 1823 in Chalon-sur-Saône and died in 1901
The Farmyard, Oil on Panel
40 x 26 cm unframed and 53 x 42 cm

Philibert COUTURIER is the painter of farmyards, an excellent draughtsman, he gives his roosters, hens and guinea fowl a certain character with strong colors. In the foreground, the rooster with shimmering and shiny feathers is surrounded by superb galiforms.
We can imagine the-a-doodling and the cackling while admiring these magnificent gallinaceous birds.

He also likes to paint genre scenes and portraits.

A pupil of Picot, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1844.
His paintings are present in many museums.
He is the author of pamphlets on Millet and Corot.

Museums: Montpellier, Nice, Reims, Chalon, Saint-Quentin
USA: Baltimore, New-York
