Isaac. Levitan 1860 - 1900 is a world-renowned Russian landscape painter. He is known for his beautiful depictions of nature and Russian landscapes in an impressionistic realist style. Born into a modest Jewish family, Levitan showed precocious talent at an early age. In 1873 he studied at the Moscow Academy of Fine Arts. Levitan developed his own style characterized by a skillful use of light to create expressive landscapes. He became the most influential landscape painter in Russia and received many awards. Unfortunately Levitan suffered from health problems and died at the age of 39. His artistic heritage lives on and his works are exhibited in many museums around the world. He is considered the greatest landscape painter of all time.
