Portrait of Philippe II d'Orléans young, Duke of Chartres and future regent, by a follower of Nicolas de Largillère (1656-1746). The full-length portrait dating from 1680 is currently exhibited at the Prado Museum in Madrid.
Oil on canvas in good condition, mounted on a wooden panel. Old wooden frame.
Philippe d'Orléans is the son of Louis XIV's brother. He is therefore the nephew of King Louis XIV who died in 1715. Philippe d'Orléans, commonly called the Regent, was born on August 2, 1674 in Saint-Cloud and died on December 2, 1723 in Versailles, and was the regent of the Kingdom of France during the minority of Louis XV.
