Sometimes called “Théophile Hingre” is a sculptor modeler, medal engraver. specialist in animal sculpture.
In 1844, at the age of 12, he went to Paris, to the Temple district, and became an apprentice in the workshop of Henri Louis Gervais and Adrien Possot to learn ornamental sculpture appropriate to the manufacture of bronze, to which he continued to apply himself until his twenty-fifth year.
The artist collaborated for seven years as an ornamental sculptor at the goldsmith house “Elkington” in Birmingham.
Théophile always had only one signature in capital letters of printing “T.HINGRE” which is only found on his sculptures.
