Jean Senelle (1605-1671) The Three Wise Men

The Adoration of the Magi, attributed to Jean SENELLE. Oil on relined canvas. Born in Meaux in 1605, he died there in 1671. It was in the studio of Georges Lallemand and Simon Vouet that he trained. He was also influenced by the work of La Hyre and Vignon, his palette is warm and bright. In the center of a stable, the holy family welcomes the Three Wise Men who have come to pay homage to the child Jesus standing with his left hand blessing Melchior under the gaze of Caspar, Balthazar and their entourage.
