“boulle” Marquetry Entry Cabinet, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century

Elegant Napoleon III period sideboard, with magnificent “Boulle” marquetry, named after Charles-André BOULLE, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who made this technique famous using chiseled brass inlay on a tortoiseshell background. This ornamentation process is found in various places, particularly in the upper part, on the front and on the uprights, always on a black background in blackened pearwood, thus offering a beautiful contrast. The chiseled brass inlays form intertwined volutes, foliage and arabesques. This piece of furniture opens with a door that pulls from the right, composed in the corners of four concave elements: these are separated by chiseled bronze fittings, one of which is fitted with a key used for opening. The lock is functional. The oval-shaped motif in the central part has a large bronze molding, decorated with flowers accompanied by a pearl. The mahogany interior is structured by two shelves of the same species, adjustable on a rack. In addition, this quality furniture at support height is enriched with numerous bronzes, in particular sculpted falls in the shape of mermaids in the upper part of the uprights, in the shape of flowers for the falls, but also in the half-round corners. Two moldings of the same alloy embellish the upper part. A third molding festooned with petals embellishes the base in its overhang, while its perimeter, like that of the half-round corners, is finely highlighted with inlays of brass thread on blackened wood. This property is topped with an original veined white Carrara marble in perfect condition, which brings an additional shine to the whole. This exceptional bicentennial piece of furniture will undoubtedly mark your interior with a sumptuous touch. ********** Period: Napoleon III, mid-19th century Certificate of authenticity provided.
