Limoges Enamel And Gilt-bronze Jewellery Casket, Circa 1900
Limoges Enamel and Gilt-Bronze Jewellery Casket, circa 1900
An elegant rectangular jewellery casket composed of five convex painted Limoges enamel panels.
The panels display a luminous translucent red ground delicately painted with white flowers, green foliage and small blue blossoms, reflecting the naturalistic taste of the Art Nouveau period.
They are set within a richly chased gilt-bronze mount in the Louis XV style, decorated with scrolling foliage and Rococo motifs. The casket is raised on four finely cast ornamental feet.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a carefully preserved, button-tufted ivory silk interior. A small period label inscribed “C. DUC”, most likely referring to a former owner, is sewn inside the lid.
French Limoges work, circa 1900.
