"Louis XVI Carved Oak Wood Panel"
Louis XVI period oak middle door panel carved with scrolls, a flower basket and ivy leaves. The panel is set in a molded frame, assembled with dowels. It has old colors (blue and green) on a white primer on the back. A label is glued to the back "N/615 - purchase 11 601". Similar panels are kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. 07.225.172a-f) and come from the collection of the decorator Georges Hoentschel. These panels were on display in his gallery at 158 boulevard Flandrin in Paris (photo provided on request). Bibliography: Salvaging the Past: Georges Hoentschel and French decorative Arts at the MET
