Pio Sanquirico (Gudo Visconti, Milano, 1847 - Milano, 1900) "Sanquirico mainly exhibited in Italy. In 1880, he was invited to the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Turin, where he exhibited "In times of peace". In 1881 he exhibited three more paintings, "Alla frutta, Panfilo Castaldi at the Court of the Sforza and Discovery and Illusion in Turin". The same year he exhibited "Una scoperta; Da Monza a Sesto", and a series of studies at the Expo of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Florence. In 1883 he painted and exhibited three new canvases: "Confidenza Verra" and "Il pulcino nero" in Milan. The latter was also exhibited in 1883, at the Rome Exhibition with another painting depicting Giordano Bruno. His masterpiece is considered to be "The Forbidden Fruit", initially exhibited at the National Art Exhibition in Venice in 1887". (thanks Wikipedia) "Pio Sanquirico trained at the Brera Academy as a student of Giuseppe Bertini and Raffaele Casnedi. His first exhibitions dealt with genre scenes, historical reconstructions and costumes, imbued with a romantic attitude. From 1874 he participated in exhibitions in Braidense. In the 1880s he painted works with a mystical and spiritual theme combined with floral compositions. Among the most significant works is "Fiori in oblio" (exhibited in 1892) currently on display at the GAM Modern Art Gallery in Milan. Some of his works tell the biographies of Italian historical figures: Tommaso Campanella (1880) and Giordano Bruno dragged to torture exhibited in Rome for the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Rome in 1883. A fundamental artistic figure for his artistic career was Moses Bianchi (1806 - 1875), especially for his easy technique and fervent brushstrokes.
