Elegant painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a landscape with grazing animals, of remarkable pictorial quality. In the foreground we see some wonderful goats with the sheepdog next to them while we find the herdsman resting from behind. Painting attributable to the German painter Philipp Peter Roos known as Rosa da Tivoli (1657-1706), lacking authentication. A pupil of Giacinto Brandi, he worked mainly in Italy and bought a house in Tivoli, which earned him the famous nickname. He raised many animals and then painted them in the Roman countryside, with intense brushstrokes, sometimes almost coarse and with a strong contrast between light and shadow. 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in good condition. (Painting part of a pair, see photo and ask for the price of the pair, if still available). Internal size H 73 x W 59 cm.
