India, Tamil Nadu region, 17th-18th century, superb and unusual architectural element from a temple or residence belonging to upper castes. It is decorated with a Yali, an animal with a lion's body and elephant tusks from Hindu mythology. It is especially visible in the temples of southern India and particularly in the Tamil Nadu region. The significant weight of this piece attests to the quality of the wood and their vocation to embellish a building.
