A bit of Japanese culture: Two pieces from an old kai-awaze game where you had to find the counterpart to your painted shell. (among the 360 pieces in the set) The meticulously painted miniature scenes represented moments from the tale of Genji. Today these shells protect the miniatures like a cave and are delicate decorative objects.
