Very Large Louis XIV Period Chiseled Embossed Copper Wall Fountain , Coat Of Arms
LOUIS XIV PERIOD, late 17th to early 18th century
Superb and very large embossed and richly chiseled copper and brass wall fountain
The whole is made up of 3 parts:
* the tinned copper (interior) cover of the body fountain, topped with 2 turned brass sockets
* the wall fountain body itself, with its 2 zoomorphic bronze taps, decorated with a count's coat of arms, a raised and crowned lion carrying a cross, framed by 2 sphinxes
* the very large and trapezoidal fountain basin, with its 2 sturdy bronze handles, this time showing the same coat of arms surrounded by 2 does
The whole is also very richly decorated with leafy frames and plant scrolls, grotesque masks and lion muzzles, stylized reserves, shells, floral garlands and plant descents, to form a typically Louis XIV decor, again recalled by the shape of the basin and the fountain body, both with cut sides.
Backgrounds are finely chiseled to increase decorative richness characteristic of this period
I ve not identified the coat of arms, but I thank you in advance for any help you could give me in identifying this noblility family.
Dimensions:
* basin 66 x 42cm depth and Height 33cm
* Fountain body with its cover 47 * 19cm and height 59cm
Total height in position approx. 115cm
Complete set, spectacular and in very good condition, superb overall patina.
This is the most beautiful model of copper wall fountain that I have seen in my career. Ideal for decorating a castle kitchen (see on this subject the beautiful decorative sets of castle kitchens, such as at Champs de Bataille, mixing ceramics and old glassware, pewter and hare lodgings in black bottom, Renaissance candlesticks, ...)
